About me
Peter Harrison is a renowned seabird expert, author, artist, and conservationist. In 2021 he published SEABIRDS: The New Identification Guide, a comprehensive guide to the world’s 434 seabird species and the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to seabirding. Peter has authored over a dozen books. His first book—the critically-acclaimed Seabirds: An Identification Guide published in 1983—was considered the bible of seabird identification for nearly 40 years.
In recognition of his global conservation efforts, Peter received an MBE from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, followed by the Royal Society’s Conservation Gold Medal. Peter was awarded the New York Linnaean Society’s Eisenmann Gold Medal for Excellence in Ornithology, and was recently honored by BirdLife for his contributions to the conservation of marine birds.
On a 2011 expedition to Chile, Peter led a five-person team to locate, catch, and describe the first completely new storm-petrel species to be discovered in nearly 100 years, the Pincoya Storm-petrel. Peter is a Fellow of the Explorers Club and co-founder of global travel company, Apex Expeditions. He continues to lead expeditions throughout the world, from the Arctic to the Antarctic.
