Dovetails allow boards to be joined at the ends to form a carcase or box. The joint is mechanically strong and provides a large surface area of good fiber contact for glue adhesion. Further the box’s component boards can move with humidity change, with no restriction or grain conflict through the box or at the joint.

In this lecture/ demonstration, I will discuss and show examples of various dovetail joints: through, half-blind, sliding (french), housed tapered and variations on these forms. I will cut and fit one dovetailed part.
